CLIENT PROJECT

I led the comprehensive design and production of the 100-page Economic Development Strategy Report for the Chippewa Cree Tribe of Rocky Boy, Montana. My primary goal was to elevate the existing document from a raw Word file into a professionally designed, visually engaging, and highly readable final publication that honors the Tribe's unique identity.
"A large part of the report's success had to do with how it was presented—the design had a real impact."
— Cindi Ptak, founder of Hummingbird Consulting

A core component of this project was the respectful and consistent integration of the Chippewa Cree Tribe's official seal and symbolism throughout the report to ensure cultural alignment and visual guidance.
Symbolic Design Elements
Cover explicitly incorporates icons derived from the tribal seal, using simplified forms of the sun rays, bear paw tracks, and eagle feathers to maintain consistency with the official symbols.
Interior Theming
These symbols are used throughout the document. For instance, a sun icon highlights important text that requires emphasis, while a distinct color drawn directly from the official seal is assigned to visually delineate each of the 9 sections.
Typographic Hierarchy
A clear and readable hierarchy was established using two primary typefaces:
-
Acuta: Utilized for all titles, headers, and quote typography.
-
Balto: Applied to subheaders, body copy, and emphasized text.
